From 2002 through 2004, using a hand-held camera and color film, I shot a series of night photos of the Mississippi River flowing through downtown New Orleans. Ten months after Hurricane Katrina my husband and I left New Orleans and moved back to the Northeast.
In February, 2007, while temporarily living on Long Island, I decided to explore the possibility of creating large format pigment prints from the original 35 mm negatives which I found in a moving box. Thanks to encouragement from my friend, photographer Sandra Russell Clark, and with technical support from the digital photo lab at Amagansett Applied Arts on Long Island and the Digital Imaging Center at the Maine Photographic Workshops in Rockport Maine, I was able to print this series.
